Family-owned taxidermy · DeLand, Florida

Your harvest, preserved with a steady hand.

Feathered Horn Taxidermy is a family workshop focused on three things: waterfowl, whitetail deer and small fur-bearing animals. Every mount is handled as one specimen, one story, one client.

What we mount

Three specialties, done carefully

We keep our focus narrow on purpose. Working with a short list of animals lets us study them closely: how a drake holds its neck, how a buck's cape lies over the shoulder, how fur settles on a small mammal at rest.

01

Waterfowl taxidermy

Ducks and other waterfowl mounted in natural poses: on the water, in flight, or settling in. We pay close attention to feather placement, wing set and the iridescent color that makes a drake recognizable at a glance.

  • Standing, swimming and flying poses
  • Feather cleaning and grooming
  • Habitat bases discussed with you at intake
02

Whitetail deer mounts

Shoulder mounts and other whitetail work for the deer you were proud to take. We aim for an honest, alert expression and a cape that sits the way it did in the woods.

  • Shoulder mounts
  • Pose and head position chosen together
  • Antler cleanup and careful handling
03

Small fur-bearing animals

Small mammals preserved and mounted with the same attention as our larger pieces. Fur direction, posture and eye placement are where a small mount succeeds or fails, so that is where we spend our time.

  • Full-body mounts
  • Natural, at-rest and active poses
  • Fur cleaning and finishing

How a mount comes together

From the field to your wall

  1. Get in touch

Email us before you drop anything off. Tell us the species, how it was stored and what kind of mount you have in mind.

  2. Intake & tagging

Your specimen is logged and tagged with your name and the details of the mount, so it stays yours from start to finish.

  3. Preparation

Skinning, fleshing and preservation of the hide or skin. This unseen work decides how well a mount holds up over the years.

  4. Form & mounting

The skin is fitted to a form and shaped into the pose we agreed on, with attention to anatomy and expression.

  5. Drying & finishing

After drying, we finish the details: eyes, color work on bare areas, feather and fur grooming.

  6. Pickup

We let you know when your mount is ready and talk you through caring for it at home.

Before it reaches us

Field care that makes a better mount

The quality of a mount starts the moment the animal is down. These are general guidelines. If you're unsure, contact us first. We'd much rather talk it through than receive a specimen that can't be saved.

Waterfowl

  • Do not field-dress a bird you want mounted.
  • Gently wipe away blood and let wet feathers air-dry where you can.
  • Tuck the head under a wing, slide the bird into a plastic bag and press out the air.
  • Keep it cool and freeze it as soon as possible.

Whitetail deer

  • Never cut the throat or slit the chest toward the neck.
  • Leave plenty of cape. Cut well behind the front legs, around the body.
  • Avoid dragging by a rope around the neck, which can rub the hair.
  • Keep the cape cool and dry, and bring it in or freeze it quickly. Florida heat works fast.

Small mammals

  • Keep the animal whole and handle it gently to protect the fur.
  • Bag it individually and remove as much air as possible.
  • Freeze promptly. Don't let it sit in a warm truck.
  • Note the date and location of harvest for your records.

Waterfowl and other game are covered by Florida and federal wildlife rules. Please bring the hunting and harvest information the law requires for your animal. We may ask to see it at intake.

The workshop

A family shop in DeLand

Feathered Horn Taxidermy, LLC is a family-owned workshop in DeLand, Florida, managed by Samantha Tyler. The name says what we care about: the feather of a well-set duck and the horn of a whitetail, plus the smaller fur-bearers in between.

We work for hunters, outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts across Florida who want a mount that looks like the animal they remember. Our approach is simple: listen first, keep each specimen tracked from intake to pickup, and take the time the work needs.
